Call to bring back ‘traditional smoking’ to schools
An educational think tank is calling for the return of smoke-filled staff rooms to Britain’s schools. The call has come from the previously unheard-of political pressure group ‘Right Thinking Now!’ who are suggesting a possible link between the increase in underage crime and the decrease in cigarette consumption.
‘In the good old days, a child would hang around by the school staff room and get blasted by an overwhelming fug of tobacco smoke as the door opened’ said Charles Palmer, a spokesman for the right-wing think-tank. ‘But now political correctness and the nanny state have meant that smoking is banned in all public buildings where there are children. But if we want traditional schools, we should go for the whole package – teachers with nicotine stained fingers who come back from the pub at lunchtime reeking of beer and fags.’
Mr Palmer denied that his opinions were in any way affected by his position as paid advisor to British American Tobacco.
