50 year rule was abolished 50 years ago

Official government papers released under the 50 year rule bill have revealed that the 50 year rule was abolished 50 years ago, but the government couldn’t tell us until now.

The announcement has caused considerable embarrassment in Whitehall, with political correspondents demanding to know how this anomaly was allowed to continue. However the government refused to offer explanation, claiming that they were now protected from releasing any more information under the terms of the recent Freedom of Information Act.

This is the second embarrassment for the beleaguered Home Office in one week following the scandal surrounding the Serious Fraud Office. It turned out that they weren’t the Serious Fraud Office at all, but a bunch of impostors.
