Britain’s youth seized by craze for internal body piercing
Trendsetters in Britain’s inner-cities are leading the way with the latest fashion craze to grip the nation’s youth-culture; internal body piercing.
Over the past couple of decades, nose studs, pierced tongues and rings through the eyebrow have become a common sight. But now the fad has gone a stage further as young people are paying surgeons to have piercings inserted through their internal organs.
Twenty-two year old ‘Zed’ who works part-time in a snowboard and surfing shop already has gold ring in his pancreas and a diamond in his bile duct. But last weekend he underwent a two-hour operation to have a silver-plated stud put into his spleen.
Surgeons entered through his back by cutting through old scar tissue from when he had a Chinese symbol tattooed on his left kidney. They then had to work around the gold chain that hangs between his liver to his duodenum, briefly losing the butterfly clip in his long-intestine. The operation cost £1700 plus £3.99 for the stud.
‘It costs a few bob, but it’s worth it,’ said Zed. ‘Having a stud in your spleen isn’t just about being cool. It also really heightens the pleasure of having your red blood cells refined.’
