Dog breeders defend ‘Shark-Bull Terrier’

Owners of so-called ‘devil dogs’ are managing to circumvent the Dangerous Dogs Act with a new breed of terrier that had not been developed at the time the bill was drafted. The ‘American Shark Bull Terrier’ is part Pit-Bull, part Rottweiller and part Great White Shark.
The ‘Shark Bull’ can be distinguished by its robust muscular shape, its wide head but most of all by the large dorsal fin sticking out its back. Owners claim shark bulls are no more aggressive than any other breed as long as you know how to handle them. ‘It’s a breeding thing innit?’ says Bryan Naylor from Cornwall, owner of Shark-Bull ‘Timmy’. He claims his dog is like any other and loves nothing more than going for a walk along the beach, occasionally diving into the waves and fetching surfers. ‘Timmy is just a normal family pet, except that as well as normal dog food, you have to buy these Grey Seal supplements. Oh and he loves chewing small fishing boats as well, but they grow out of that.’ Bryan has been a fan of the breed since one ate his brother-in-law during a scuba-diving holiday in South Africa. ‘The dog was just being friendly, but my brother-in-law didn’t know how to react. He was never very good with dogs, God rest him.’
Now there are calls to amend the Dangerous Dog Act to include the American Shark Bull terrier, even though the breeders claim the dogs are being singled out unfairly. ‘If you ban these dogs, where it will stop? Next they won’t let us have Staffordshire Bull Constrictors or the Black Widow Retrievers.’ said Bryan, adding ‘Just keep still and he’ll let go of your leg eventually…’
