Channel 4 ‘Faked being a TV channel’
Channel 4 is not actually a television broadcaster but a contestant in an 1980′s TV program called ‘Faking it’ it was revealed today.
The ‘Broadcaster’ was coached for a number of weeks on the skills needed to convince members of the public and a panel of judges that it was a real TV station when placed against established television channels such as BBC and ITV.
An embarrassed expert who mistakenly thought the contestant was a genuine broadcaster praised Channel 4 for their efforts; ‘In the beginning I wasn’t so convinced, their documentaries were insightful and the comedy cult and edgy, but they pulled it around in the last couple of years. They started to broadcast really low-rate reality TV, freak-show documentaries and lifestyle crap that wouldn’t look out of place on Channel 5, ITV 2 or UK Voyeur Gold, I’m very impressed…’
The story comes in a month of revelations about deception and breaches of trust by broadcasters, but no one had imagined that an entire channel was faked. ‘I feel such a fool, is this going to be on TV?’ said the judge.
However many viewers remained sceptical, suggesting that perhaps the ‘faking it’ story was made up by ‘Faking It’, and that all the shock deceptions of the recent weeks were in fact made up for publicity purposes. Cambridge University is now developing new branch of philosophy in order to cope with this concept.
