Man fakes own death and hides in TV impersonating programmes for 15 years

The family of Barry Fisher had often wondered why the actors on the TV programmes often looked the same, and why there was only one person in each scene. ‘We often wondered why the actors on the TV programmes often looked the same, and why there was only one person in each scene,’ his family said in unison.
In fact it was partly to escape his infuriating wife and kids that Barry Fisher faked his own death back in 1993. But with nowhere to go, and still wanting to see his children grow up, Barry decided to hide inside the family television set where he performed their favourite programmes to his unsuspecting (and it has to be said, rather stupid) family for the following decade and a half. At night he would emerge from the cabinet and help himself to food from the fridge, use the bathroom and then climb back inside the empty TV disguised as a little girl playing noughts and crosses with a toy clown.
‘It was quite hard to start with,’ admitted Barry. ‘The kids would argue and keep changing the channels, so one minute I was Postman Pat on CBeebies, the next minute I was being Snoop Dogg on MTV. In a moment of confusion I once gunned down Mrs Goggins at the Post Office, but I don’t think anyone noticed.’
When his family bought SkyPlus Barry had to learn to pause and even rewind, though the advent of reality TV made things a lot easier explained Barry. ‘Ever since Big Brother, all I had to do was sit there picking my nose, and the whole family were riveted.’ Not until he injured himself impersonating a contestant on ‘Dancing on Ice’ and emerged from the broken TV did the family realise their long lost father was alive and that they had actually been watching him for fifteen years. ‘It is probably just as well, admitted Barry. ‘Recently my teenage sons had started selecting the Adult Channel. ‘Their first vision of ‘Naked Housewives On the Job’ will probably have left all sorts of pyschological scars.’
