News blackout continues on reason for Afghan war

British newspaper editors and broadcast news organisations have agreed to continue the news blackout on the reasons why British forces have been fighting a war in Afghanistan for the past half dozen years. ‘It is not something we do lightly…’ said a senior controller at BBC News. ‘But we have to balance our duty to report events with the personal safety of individuals. Their reputation may come under intense fire from their enemies, if we start asking why the hell the army was sent out there in the first place.’

During the hey-dey of the British Empire, English forces failed to suppress Afghanistan, and modern super-powers such as the Soviet Union and the United States have fared no better. So any decision to send soldiers to the region involves great risks for the politicians involved which is why the news blackout has continued.

‘The British public are far more interested in what members of their Royal family have been up to than worrying about complex geo-political matters such as British support for US involvement in the Middle East.’

Meanwhile British tabloid editors have explained their decisions to ignore Prince Harry while he was on a recent tour of duty in the area. ‘To be honest, there’s not much of a story while he’s in a British Army uniform rather than a Nazi one. And he’s never going to get pissed in a strict Muslim country like Afghanistan is he? Why do you think they sent him out there?’ Prince Harry is now reported to be own his way home, although reports from Afghanistan claim that he is in fact continuing his tour of duty in disguise.
