Long corridor ‘holding the door’ etiquette leads to fight
There was violence in central London today following an argument over the correct way to thank somebody for repeatedly holding open a series of doors.
An eyewitness said ‘It all seemed to be going OK; after each door some grateful acknowledgement was made, I can’t recall the order, but it was something like ‘Cheers’, ‘Ta’, ‘Thanks’, ‘Thanks a lot’ ‘Nice One’. I just guess that by door number six, the second man had ran out of things to say.
Detectives later examined the scene of the violence, following in the path of the accused, although heated words were heard apparently at the end of the corridor. Planners have been asked to look again at this courtesy blackspot.
