Post Office queue announcer sacked for sending customer to Cashier Number 4 instead of Cashier Number 6

The Communications Workers Union today condemned the management of the Post Office in Harrow for sacking queue announcer Shirley Crookshank after her directions sent a customer to the occupied cashier number 4, instead of the vacant cashier number 6.

However Mrs Crookshank was philosophical about the loss of her job, admitting her mistake was not a one off, and that she regularly sent customers to occupied cashiers for a laugh to reduce the boredom of her role. ‘I once even sent one short sighted old woman into the chemist next door to ask for her pension.’

She has since got a new job on the London Underground but has already been reprimanded for announcing ‘Don’t worry about the gap.’
