Mancunian market traders undercut Government with £4.99 I.D. Cards
Government plans to trial the controversial biometric card scheme in Manchester next year are in disarray, following promises from local market traders to offer I.D. cards at a fraction of the £30 Government asking price.
Ron Skinner, a trader from Bury Market has said that he has already had numerous enquiries about his cards, which are due to retail at £4.99 or three-for-a-tenner.
‘Everyone around here is into the idea of I.D. cards, but I think they’re a bit gobsmacked by the price. Let’s face it: they’re bound to be a bit shite – all official looking. Mine come in all kinds of designs, including Playboy and Kappa. We’re also taking orders for City and United special editions; you can even have Ricky Hatton’s face and biometric details on it for an extra two pounds fifty – beat that Jacqui Smith.’
