The RMT leader Bob Crow has issued a warning to bus companies that drivers have had enough of the requirement to wave at each other as their buses pass on the roads. ‘The cheerful nature required for this repetitive task isn’t in keeping with the surliness needed for more complicated manoeuvres like pulling away just as commuters get to the bus stop, and ejecting passengers for not having the right change. Some of our members just aren’t equipped for this role.’
Although the RMT is threatening strike action, all bus companies have promised that services will be unaffected. Attempts today to canvass the views of rank-and-file workers failed as a succession of bus drivers sped straight past a group of waiting journalists waving placards saying ‘Sorry not in service’.
