Facebook admits hidden ‘Can we eat your children?’ checkbox
After recent protests about misleading ‘Terms and Conditions’ which led users to unwittingly allow personal data and images to be used in advertising, the social networking site Facebook was forced to admit today that there is also a ‘Can we eat your children?’ option tucked away deep on its privacy pages.
Set to ‘True’ by default, analysts believe that the setting has led to millions of Facebook users unwittingly giving their permission for the website, its advertisers, or other carefully selected partners to eat their children.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg vigorously denied any wrongdoing. ‘People make us out to be evil,’ he complained, ‘but our users can have complete confidence that their children will be eaten in accordance with the strictest data protection laws. Burp. Excuse me.’
