Family of lightning-victim lottery-winner ‘call it quits’
‘I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry,’ said Lorraine Boyes, widow of a lottery millionaire who died after being struck by lightning; ‘I’ve been up and down like a yo-yo, these last few days.’ Friends and neighbours in the rear pews at the funeral service said they couldn’t be sure whether the front row family were ‘sobbing into their handkerchiefs or trying to suppress a fit of the giggles.’
‘The odds of being struck by lightning two days after banking a 1.7m lottery win,’ said a statistician, ‘whilst almost incalculable, are still more likely than surviving the strike, as Mr Boyes did, only to be hit by a bus on his way to A&E.’
