Time Team website closed for excavation
Channel 4 has announced that the Time Team website will remain closed, while the site is excavated following the discovery of some primitive jpegs and old fragments of binary code. Much of the initial excavation work involved digging out tons of junk emails buried under the site.
‘All we have now is a few empty HTML files,’ commented presenter Tony Robinson, ‘but it doesn’t take much imagination to picture a virtual world dating back tens of years.’ Other discoveries have included a series of small virtual firewalls, the remains of some flash animation and an early 3D render of a fortified Tudor mansion.
Perhaps the most exciting find so far is a series of video clips hacked out of an old password-protected folder belonging to Mick the Dig. ‘To me it looked nothing more than a pile of digital rubble,’ said Robinson, ‘but the technical lads were all very excited and rushed off for a good old rummage in the hardcore.’Click to send this story to a friend
