UK newsagents in crisis as mainstream newspapers refuse to ‘share a platform’ with the Daily Mail
Britain’s newsagents and cornershops have been thrown into disarray after the nation’s mainstream newspapers suddenly announced that they would refuse to share shelf space with the Daily Mail.
In a surprise move that has caused severe disorder on shelves in retailers throughout the UK, newspapers have been lining up to declare their opposition to the Daily Mail and its strident views. A spokesman for the Guardian said that the publication had ‘gone 188 years without sharing a news-stand with a fascist and it wasn’t about to start now.’
Responding to the confusion, representative for the National Federation of Retail Newsagents said that cornershop owners ‘had a responsibility to treat all newspapers with due impartiality, however abhorrent their politics, views and typefaces might be to you and me.’
