New Jerusalem denied planning permission
Sheffield’s town planning committee has rejected a plan to rebuild the ancient city of Jerusalem on designated Green Belt land.
The plan by architects Blake & Co. allegedly failed to provide social housing, while plans for a new eco-abattoir for lambs and a proposed manufacturing facility for high class cutlery also caused controversy.
Opposing the scheme, Councillor Charles Parry added that the bows, arrows of desire and swords produced there could easily find their way into the wrong hands and that Blake’s Fire Risk Assessment did not include appropriate control measures for the burning of precious metals in a cloudy area.
‘It’s not the sort of thing we want in our green and pleasant land,’ said Parry, adding: ‘Oh, stop laughing.’
