Grieving Taliban mother shot after complaining about spelling mistake
The grieving mother of an Afghan Taliban fighter has been executed after complaining of a spelling mistake in a letter of condolence to her from her son’s superior.
The woman was widely vilified in the Afghan press for daring to criticise the spiritual leader who had written the letter. ‘For one thing it was an insult to Allah, and for another she isn’t supposed to be able to read,’ explained an elderly Taliban Elder.
Following her execution a letter of condolence was sent to her sister, who described the spelling and handwriting to be ‘impecable’ – ‘I mean, I presume, obviously there is no way of me knowing.’
