A seven year old girl from Somerset has become the youngest ever recipient of the Victoria Cross. Bethany Taylor from Weston-Super-Mare bravely cleared hundreds of Lego bricks from her brother’s bedroom floor over a twelve-month period, helping to prevent terrible injuries to their parents’ feet and putting herself at great risk of sore foot of her own in the process. Bethany’s work has been likened to the anti-landmine campaign by the late Princess Diana.
‘This was a remarkable show of courage and bravery’ said Prime Minister Gordon Brown ‘and she undoubtedly deserves her honour. I can’t think of a better example of valour and self-sacrifice. Some of those bricks can be really sharp can’t they, especially those slopey roof pieces.’
