A new video game will be on gamers’ Christmas lists this year, after developer CIB Games unveiled ‘ Politics Hero’ – a product that Whitehall mandarins hope will re-invigorate the political process. In the game, players can stand for election, sit on the backbenches, claim expenses and involve themselves in sex scandals, with the eventual goal of running their chosen legislature.
‘We’re trying to make politics interesting.’ claims CIB’s Director of Development James Casey. ‘There can be nothing more exhilarating than getting to run a country and deciding how to balance the budget and maintain services while going to war.’
One playtester is Ed, a 42-year old would-be party leader from Castleford. ‘It’s great. So far I’ve managed to assume the great offices of state and maintain a special relationship with a powerful western country whilst simultaneously holding a position on the board of a national telecommunications company and juggling a string of mistresses. A few more hours and I’ll reach the next level and a chance to play for a seat on the EU gravy train.’
