A 56 year old man escaped a prison sentence for having sex with a sheep after a judge agreed that the victim was ‘partly responsible’ for the incident.
In admitting the offence, Gareth Williams, a shepherd from Caernarfon, claimed that he had not set out with the intention of having sex with the sheep. ‘It had been just a normal evening,’ he said, ‘we had a few drinks together and one thing led to another.’
In mitigation, the defence solicitor said, ‘Whilst Mr Williams is ashamed of his actions; he does feel the sheep led him on by looking at him in an alluring manner.’
In recording a community sentence to be served at the local RSPCA centre, Judge Michael Jones QC said ‘I do not believe that a custodial sentence is entirely appropriate in this case as this shameless sheep had apparently done little to ward off the amorous attentions of Mr Williams,’ adding, ‘some of these gels just seem to be asking for it.’
