Windsor woman distraught after court orders demolition of her castle
An 83-year old pensioner was said to be ‘devastated’ last night after she lost her battle to save her castle-style home from being demolished. The elderly woman, known only as ‘Mrs Q’, was finally defeated yesterday when the High Court ruled that her home was unlawful and had to come down as there was no record of planning permission having been granted.
The castle was only recently discovered hidden in a desolate corner of Berkshire close to Legoland and under the Heathrow flight path.
After the hearing Gerald Snape QC, representing Windsor & Maidenhead Royal Borough Council at the hearing, said, ‘The old lady wanted to retain the property on the ground of national heritage or something, but we’ve heard that one before.’
‘This is an unfortunate situation but rules are rules,’ said a council spokesman. ‘Between you and me though, I think the old girl’s lost it. I mean why on earth would she want to build it right under the flight path to Heathrow?’
