Toby Sanders of Bedford will today receive an innovation award for the imaginative way in which he has converted his garage to accommodate his car, an achievement described by Bedford’s mayor as ‘an inspiration to everyone’.

Toby said he got the mad idea from an old TV programme. His son Alfie’s favourite DVD showed Thunderbird 2 emerging from behind a cliff face. ‘Obviously, garages aren’t designed to hold cars,’ said Toby, ‘and I miss my tools, bikes, mower, magazine collection and old monitors and printers. But I’d recommend it to anyone.’
