Get well soon cards remaining unsold after Huntley attack
The owner of an east London corner shop has admitted it may have been a mistake to stock up on extra supplies of ‘get well soon’ cards following the attack on Ian Huntley in his prison cell.
‘It was such a high-profile injury that I expected a rush of customers wishing to send their sympathy,’ said an embarrassed Brian Thurrock, 52, owner of Brian’s News in Ilford. ‘But we don’t seem to have sold any at all so far. Still – it’s early days, and on the plus side, I have had a lot of customers coming in specially to ask whether we sell ‘Rot in Hell, sicko’ cards. Although unfortunately I’ve not got any of those in at the moment.’
Mr Thurrock also revealed that he would be launching a review of his stock purchasing policy. ‘It’s not the first time that I’ve not been able to fulfil customer demand,’ he admitted. ‘Funnily enough almost the same thing happened when poor old Myra Hindley was on a life support machine.’
