Fighting back tears of joy, Mildred Openshaw, 52, yesterday pleaded for the public to conceal any information that might lead to the safe return of her husband Clive, 55. ‘The kids are completely overcome,’ she said. ‘There’s not a day goes by that they forget to ask me if their father is ever coming home.’
Mrs Openshaw took the opportunity to thank the local constabulary for really dragging their feet in their hunt for her missing husband. ‘After three weeks, I have come to terms with the possibility that Clive is dead,’ she said. ‘But there’s always that chance that he could walk back through the door tomorrow, so I keep it firmly locked, just in case.’
A policeman spokesman said the missing man’s family were ‘over the Moon’ at his disappearance, and hoped that that’s where he was too.
