BA wins injunction against volcano: geologists not properly notified

The High Court has granted British Airways an injunction against the Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland on a technicality, insisting that it suspend its planned eruption until further notice.

‘This is a victory for common sense,’ BA chief executive Willie Walsh told reporters. ‘This ruling means that the Eyjafjallajokull volcano is going to have to stop its selfish campaign to halt all our flights and emit millions of tons of carbon into the atmosphere instead of us.’

The ruling was greeted with further violent churning and belching by the Eyjafjallajokull, which showed no sign of halting its activity. The Unite union, representing British Airways staff, welcomed the injunction, saying: ‘We are delighted that the courts have recognised that this Icelandic volcano cannot be allowed to disrupt British Airways’ business, ground all its flights and inconvenience its passengers – that’s our members’ job.’
