The cameramen responsible for filming the unpredictable racing exploits and daredevil challenges of BBC2’s Top Gear team are to be awarded a special BAFTA prize for excellence after once again somehow managing to capture a stunt’s every moment of spontaneous outlandish action.
Industry insiders have long marvelled at the incredible ability of the BBC camera crew on the series to take up perfect filming positions time after time, with every incident framed, shot from several different angles, and also now made available in HD. The performance of the Top Gear camera team is so impressive, it has even led to cynics fancifully suspecting that the whole thing is staged — a claim dismissed as ‘ridiculous’ by a denim-clad TV insider.
‘That would just make Top Gear as bogus as Saturday Afternoon Wrestling on World of Sport. And it would imply that Jeremy Clarkson is the new Big Daddy. Only older and fatter,’ the TV expert said, ‘which is clearly just not so’.
