Onboard F1 communication to be replace by automated switchboard
The world of motor racing is set to be transformed after trials of a new sat-nav based automated switchboard system were completed ready for use in next year’s Formula One.
Racing drivers will get messages such as ‘please follow the acute bend to the right,’ ‘please remember pit-lane speed is restricted,’ and ‘your participation in this Grand Prix is appreciated and you are number…. six in the queue, about to be overtaken by number… seven.’
Stars such as Lewis Hamilton and Jensen Button will also be advised to: ‘press 1 for soft compound tyres, press 2 for hard compound tyres, press 3 for the safety car, or hold to speak to a commentator.’
