Museums to phase out fossils
As public institutions seek ways to operate more sustainably, fossils in museums are to be replaced with less finite artefacts chosen from alternative sources.
‘We’re under pressue to reduce our reliance on fossils,’ said Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt. ‘Once you’ve unearthed the last trilobite or pterosaur, you have reached a dead end. Literally. That’s why we’re working with private sector partners to develop more renewable exhibits, such as Katie Price autobiographies.
A leaked memo suggests that fossil hunting will be outlawed, though private collectors may be allowed to take part in an offset scheme. Questioned on the effects of such an initiative, Hunt said: ‘Do you have any idea of the size of the footprint associated with a single tyrannosaurus? It’s immense.’
