President Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan has started an international fund to provide aid to Lola, the cat that was recently rescued after being shut in a wheelie bin in Coventry. The people of Pakistan were said to be ‘deeply shocked and moved’ by her plight.
The £1 million pledged to date by Pakistani citizens will be used to supply immediate cat food aid. Any subsequent donations will be used to provide balls of string, treats and other toys for Lola to play with.
The aid programme was announced in an official statement and leaflets were dropped from helicopters in a bid to cheer up some of the 20 million people in Pakistan who have reportedly been ‘a bit down in the dumps’ over recent inclement weather.
