Lib Dem conference votes to make Charles Kennedy the designated driver

As the Liberal Democrat conference ended, delegates headed for the bars delighted with their unanimous choice of Charles Kennedy as designated driver.

‘It makes sense to have a teetotaller on driving duty,’ said Nick Clegg. ‘I saw Charles earlier and when I broke the news his face flushed with pride and his hands shook with excitement.’

‘He’s obviously taking the role seriously. He missed the entire afternoon session in order to secure a space in the Hare and Hounds car park, even waiting inside for hours in case he was needed and making himself useful by collecting glasses.’

A proud Mr Kennedy later told reporters, ‘I’m fantash… fantashti… I’m fine. Did I miss some speeches? Ah, never mind, if I want to know about Lib Dem polishy, I’ll wait for the Tory Conferensh. Now, where to guv?’
