Coulson leaves phone-hacking denial on Queen’s voicemail
Andy Coulson today strongly contested accusations that he was directly involved in the News of The World phone-hacking scam by leaving voicemail messages on the private numbers of the Queen and Rupert Murdoch, among others.
Speaking after last night’s Dispatches programme on Channel 4, he denied any knowledge of the ‘dark arts’ which would enable him or any other journalist to listen in on other people’s private messages, despite having earlier issued a detailed rebuttal of the programme’s claims before it had even aired.
Coulson also stated that he is totally confident of having David Cameron’s full support. ‘Dave knows I had absolutely no part in this. In fact I heard him leave a message for George Osborne saying as much just last night.’
