OAP clamped after exceeding Post Office counter fair usage policy

Pensioner Muriel Baker, 78, has been clamped and removed from a Surrey Post Office for allegedly chatting too much with staff as she withdrew her pension. ‘The old dear was deep in conversation at the counter when an alarm sounded,’ said an eye witness. ‘Then two men appeared, attached a clamp to her Zimmer frame and carried her out of the building. As she left she cried ‘But I still need to tell you about my hip operation.’ ‘

A spokesman for Dorking post office said ‘Some people are abusing the fair usage policy operating in this post office. We have had our eye on Ma Baker for some time.’

Mrs Baker’s daughter, Julie, said the experience had traumatised her mother. ‘I’ll never forget the look on her face when we arrived to collect her from the pound. Or the £475 plus VAT release fee.’
