Mascara tax means ‘richest, sassiest’ will bear brunt of recession
The Government’s proposed tax on mascara and eye shadow could lift Britain out of recession as early as the next series of The X Factor, Chancellor George Osborne has insisted.
A think tank has said that the controversial levy, which Mr Osborne says is designed to ensure that ‘the rich and sassy pay their fair share of the burden’, will hit Cheryl Cole and other X Factor contestants particularly hard.
‘Cheryl Cole is the world’s leading consumer of things ladies put on their eyes, greater than Brazil, India and Boy George put together,’ said a spokesman. ‘The tax could raise as much as £2bn for the Treasury so national treasure or not, she’s definitely worth it.’Click to send this story to a friend
