BBC run out of ideas for what to do with James May

BBC producers threw in the towel today over what to do next with James May. ‘There’s a limit to how many formats you can build around a middle-aged bloke fannying around with toys and cars,’ explained producer Sam Barnet, ‘And the worrying thing is, he’s still got three years left on his contract.’

‘We’re not used to having this problem’ commented Director General Mark Thompson ‘usually our established acts like Jonathan Ross commit career suicide with some on-air gaff or scandal, but James could take a dump on your kitchen table and you wouldn’t be offended.’

Thompson was quick to deny reports that the BBC were planning to kill May off by getting him to present The One Show. ‘That might have worked to finish off Adrian Chiles and Jason Manford, but anyone who has survived 7 years as Jeremy Clarkson’s gimp could survive anything that TV could throw at him.’
