Gunshot sensors will keep Birmingham police well safe, say experts
Sensors used to detect fatal gunshot wounds are being deployed by police forces throughout the West Midlands.
The sensors – which consist of a cardboard periscope with a telescope stuck on the end – are being installed on rooftops and high buildings in Birmingham and the rough bits of Coventry, which includes all of Coventry.
Trained police officers can then determine whether they should deploy resources to where the gun went off, or go and deal with the delivery van double parked outside the mini-market instead.
It is hoped the sensors will help prevent police officers inadvertently stumbling upon armed gangs involved in drug dealing and local turf wars on the back streets of Erdington, freeing them up to hassle street vendors, shoppers and schoolchildren.
