Passengers and air operators were last night hailing the ‘Miracle of Heathrow’ after a bright celestial object spotted in the Eastern night sky turned out to be an aeroplane arriving at Heathrow.
‘It was a wonderful sight to behold,’ said a passenger today. ‘We never lost faith and finally our prayers have been answered.’
The Christmas miracle was witnessed by thousands of followers, many of whom had been told that there was no room at the Holiday Inn and instead found temporary accommodation in the departure lounge. Many excited passengers came bearing duty-free gifts and sleeping bags.
‘Some of the more religious passengers were going on about the ‘second coming’,’ said BAA chief executive, Colin Matthews. ‘I’ve no idea when the second one’s coming, so let’s just be thankful and full of praise that the first one has arrived.’
