Gregg’s Steak Bake granted special ‘Ubiquity’ status
Gregg’s Steak Bake has been awarded Unprotected Geographical Indication status. It means that the inexplicably popular snack can be produced, sold and consumed ‘wherever there is a ready supply of cheap, mechanically recovered meat’ according to the EU working party findings. The only further proviso was that there should be ‘plenty of undemanding customers, with only a quid to spend on lunch and just five minutes before they have to dash back to their desks’ .
The word ‘steak’, used in this context, has also been granted official EU ‘Euphemism’ status, allowing Greggs to sell the pasty without laughing.
