Tribal leadership embroiled in ‘alternative goat’ electoral debate

Tebbitt still in with a chanceLeadership contests in a remote Kurdish tribe have been thrown into disarray by the introduction of the ‘alternative goat’ system. ‘It used to be so simple,’ said Amed, a returning officer. ‘The elders of a village would each put their best goat forward into a race, and the winning owner would lead the village and represent it at tribal level for the next five years. This first past the post system had its imperfections, but at least it produced a clear winner.’

Giraffe clearly visible as Gaddafi denies taking refuge in Kenya

Troubled Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi’s latest broadcast has done little to quell rumours that he has already left Libya after giraffes and elephants can be seen clearly roaming in the background during the transmission.

The transmission was halted briefly, when what looked like the neck of a giraffe came into view above the mud hut. Once the picture was restored, Field Marshall Gaddafi continued. ‘You must so ignore that giraffe, it is not there. And if it is, it has been put in your minds by foreign spies. They are everywhere.’

Emblem for Queen’s Diamond Jubilee (if she doesn’t die before then) revealed

A 10-year-old girl has won a competition to design the official emblem for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee to be held next year, providing Her Majesty doesn’t die before then.

Katherine said she was ‘cautiously excited’ that her design was going to be used, assuming the Queen makes it through till February 2012, but ‘didn’t want to get her hopes up too much in case she dies.’

viewers can complain via premium rate phone numberThe BBC today responded to allegations that The Real Hustle a show about conmen had attempted to fool viewers by using actors instead of members of the public. ‘The show intends to show the public how frauds work. Well, this is how frauds work,’ said Dawn Garnet, BBC3 Head of Light Froth, before adding with an eye roll, ‘Sheesh’. Outcry over the allegations has led to twos of people jamming the BBC Switchboard demanding to know if other BBC shows are faking it, such as whether Patsy Kensit is indeed a fully qualified healthcare professional. Brian Porteous, a credulous lunk from Romford, told the Mail on Sunday: ‘BBC lies… make brain hurt.’
