David Cameron said he was ‘intensely proud’ when he heard the news. Mr Cameron said he had ‘every confidence’ that his deputy will make it all the way down the aisle without crying, taking a tumble, or splitting the Liberal Democrat party into two or more factions.
‘He is a very clever little chap and Samantha and I will be there to encourage him and soothe any tears,’ Mr Cameron told a press conference. ‘We have already selected a little outfit for him – he’s going to look adorable.’
A Liberal Democrat party spokesman was unavailable for comment. ‘I can’t talk right now,’ she said. ‘Vince Cable was hoping to be a ringbearer and Jo Swinson really wanted to be a flower girl, but I’m sure once everybody has got over their little temper tantrums and had an afternoon nap we’ll be issuing a statement.’
