A father of two was recovering in hospital last night after collapsing 12 hours into an attempt to endure the entirety of the Chris Moyles radio show marathon.
‘I guess I’m not as young as I thought I was,’ said Dave Rigsworth, 38, from his hospital bed. ‘I knew it was going to be tough, but I had been training by listening to Radio 1 in the car. I found I could tolerate 20 minutes or so, and I just thought that on the day the adrenalin would get me through. I was so wrong.’
Mr Rigsworth was taken to hospital by paramedics after his wife found him rocking from side to side with his head in his hands and begging for it to stop.
‘People should recognise the dangers of listening to this kind of stuff,’ said consultant Dr Pierce. ‘Mr Rigsworth is very lucky. Another few minutes and the damage could have been irreversible. He could have developed Cordon-Gervais syndrome and found himself laughing pointlessly at everything he hears.’
