London Marathon spectator sets new record for endurance clapping
Cathy Daly, an amateur Marathon watcher from the Midlands, set a new world record today for the longest display of uninterrupted indifferent applause.
‘I started clapping when the elite women frontrunners went past this morning and haven’t stopped since,’ she proudly told reporters this afternoon, some nine hours into her record attempt. ‘I started training in January with frequent short bursts of applause, gradually building up my stamina to ensure I would be able to go the distance on the big day.’
Mrs Daly puts her success down to a need to keep her hands warm, and not being sure whether her husband, who is running the marathon, has passed her yet.Click to send this story to a friend
