Esther Rantzen, founder of the child protection charity ChildLine, has launched a new crusade to protect abused Liberal Democrats following their recent trouncing in the Inverclyde by-election and previous beatings in Barnsley.
‘Lib Dem Line has been created to provide 24/7 protection for Liberal Democrat MPs who are at risk of abuse and cruelty from the electorate,’ said the journalist and television presenter. ‘We have funding from the Department of Health and hope to brand special mini-buses to take mistreated Lib Dems on special day trips out of their constituencies.’
‘Unfortunately,’ continued Ms Rantzen, ‘we are having great difficulty recruiting volunteer counsellors to the helpline. Thankfully, a number of former Lib Dem MPs have recently found themselves with more time on their hands and are ideally qualified to help out.’
