Lewis Hamilton could miss next weekend’s British Grand Prix after Surrey Police invited him to attend a speed awareness course following a collision in Montreal and road traffic infractions in Monaco.
‘Lewis had the option of paying a fine instead, but the penalty points on his licence would have meant his premium going through the roof,’ said Martin Whitmarsh, team principal at McLaren. ‘He’s already lost his no claims bonus.’
Surrey’s Chief Constable Mark Rowley said last night that Speed Awareness Courses were only available as an option to those only slightly exceeding the speed limit. ‘He needs to put his foot down, quite frankly. And while we’re about it we might get an instructor to show him how to drive a bus through a gap without hitting anything else.’
