Southern Cross care homes to bid for BSkyB
A rival bidder has emerged in the race to secure ownership of British Sky Broadcasting, as Rupert Murdoch faces a challenge from the discredited care home operator Southern Cross.
With the immense distress caused to thousands of old people following their financial collapse, Southern Cross can claim to have the moral high ground over News International, and clearly meet the Government’s criterion of being a ‘fit and proper’ organisation to own a major broadcasting network.
Another suggested alternative has been the merger of Southern Cross with former Murdoch title the News of the World. ‘Pensioners may have to be turned out of their beds…’ explained one insider, ‘But we have to have somewhere to put retired tabloid journalists.’Click to send this story to a friend
