Alienated Newcastle footballer Joey Barton has been telling his followers on Twitter of his ‘respect’ for German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche.
Scouser Barton has tweeted that the author of Beyond Good and Evil was ‘a real nutter’ who was ‘as hard as Vinnie Jones’.
Once dubbed a Nietzschean Antichrist by an Everton fan, Barton claims to have developed the mental strength of a Superman by studying the philosopher’s works.
Joey openly identifies with bad boy Nietzsche, who defined the problematic relationship between fan and club in his controversial Will to Power.
Barton, who is currently deconstructing Thus Spake Zarathustra on Twitter, told his followers that he first identified with Nietzsche when, as a young tearaway on a Merseyside council estate, he saw ‘God is Dead’ scrawled on a park fence.
‘It defined my existence,’ tweeted Joey gloomily.
