Blackburn Rovers have announced today that Steve Kean will be sacked as boss and his successor will be drawn from a shortlist of the top 100 managers in the Fantasy Premier League.
Following a disastrous start to the 2011-12 Premier League season, the Indian poultry and pharmaceutical giant Venky’s, which own the Lancashire club, decided to change the way they find their next manager. A spokesman revealed, “Traditionally we picked from a pool of managers who had been unceremoniously sacked by a handful of clubs after it became clear they were rubbish at their job. So we thought we’d try something new.”
The club will be putting in place a website where the new manager can select his players, issue instructions and guide the team from the comfort of their own home. “That way they don’t have to step foot anywhere near Blackburn, something which has put off some recent candidates.”
Co-owner Venkatesh Rao tried to enter the contest himself, but abandoned his attempt after discovering that the rules didn’t allow him to sign a team of 11 washed-up former stars, all of them strikers.
