Complaint of animal-like behaviour prompts arrest at zoo

Police were called to Whipsnade Zoo earlier today after CCTV coverage showed a man making a racist gesture towards a lady from Kettering. The man, originally from the Congo but now living near Dunstable, is said to have fondled his genitals, made other inappropriate gestures, waved a banana and made racist noises, while swinging from a tyre in one of the zoo’s compounds.

So far the man has refused the help of a lawyer and continues to make racist gestures whilst hanging upside down from a light fixture in his cell, despite being issued several clear warnings over his future conduct.

A police spokesman said: ‘The vast majority of men are well behaved and enjoy having members of the public around, but all it took was for one or two mindless individuals to give the zoo a bad name.’ The man is due to appear in court on Monday and will almost certainly receive an order banning him from the zoo.
