Wednesday’s planned walkout by tens of thousands of students protesting against government reforms to higher education could lead to the collapse of the UK economy, plunging the country into a 1930’s type depression.
‘It’s the butterfly effect,’ said chaos theory expert Dr Charles Higson of Imperial College. ‘By Thursday morning the global economy could be in deep trouble.’
But NUS leaders insisted that the walkout would got ahead despite last minute appeals by the White House and the IMF. ‘We’ll be walking out of lectures and seminars,’ said a NUS spokesman, ‘come what may. And this is just the beginning of our action. Next month we’re stepping up our campaign by attending lectures and seminars.’
