Lord Coe has expressed his delight that Olympic relay torches are already turning up for sale on eBay. ‘This shows people are really getting behind us and embracing the true Olympic spirit,’ Lord Coe gushed at a press conference this morning.
‘Inspired by the bullying lawyers who protect the use of the logo, to the greedy corporates overcharging for bottled water in the stadia, the public’s response has been tremendous as they go that extra 300 metres to support the Olympic dream of making a fast buck,’ he went on, ‘It’s wonderful see ordinary British people racing straight from their relay stage to their iPhone to list their torch and uniform on eBay, with many achieving ‘personal bests’ on the way.’
48 year old Timothy Baines from Taunton is the current record-holder, managing to list his torch on the site within four minutes of completing his historic leg. ‘Life-changing honour my arse,’ Baines spat. ‘I’m saving for a new gas boiler.’
Ebay confirmed that there are currently 3,328 torches available on the site, a figure Lord Coe described as a ‘fantastic effort.’
‘Now let’s see if we can really make Britain proud, and flog the bloody lot.’
