Inventor and life-long insect rights activist Anthony Small has launched his latest innovation to make short insect lives easier. The ‘Fly Flap’ will enable house flies and other mini aviators to exit a house through closed windows via a one-way flap.
Similar to a cat flap, ‘Fly Flap’ allows ugly insects to leave homes easily, without the indignity of being smeared by a copy of the Daily Mail. ‘I noticed a big blue one repeatedly trying to escape through a solid sheet of glass’ Mr Small explained. ‘When your life expectancy is 20 days, banging your head on a window for 8 hours is the equivalent of a human forgetting how to use a door for 1.7 years. They may spend their lives shitting on everything and spreading it around, but not even politicians deserve that.’
The invention is the latest addition to Small’s insect accessory range. Stabilisers for butterflies, helmets for moths and roller skates for caterpillars are just some his insect-friendly products, but not all of them have taken off. ‘Although even gastropods need to move around in the snow, in hindsight our ‘slug rock salt’ was a mistake.’
